Blood Drive

West Side Christian School will host a LifeShare Blood Drive on Monday, December 1, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This event offers a wonderful opportunity for our Warrior family and friends to support the community—all blood collected will go directly to our local hospital in El Dorado, and each pint donated can save up to three lives.

Through LifeShare’s LifeScholar program, there is also an opportunity for West Side to benefit. To qualify, WSCS must host two blood drives this year and have at least 25% of our juniors and seniors donate. Students may ask friends and family to donate on their behalf to help us meet this goal. In return, West Side will receive $10 for each donation, which will be awarded as a grant to support student learning and achievement.

Additionally, any student who reaches four donations during the school year (either personally or through proxy donations) will receive a blue and red graduation cord from LifeShare.

Frequently Asked Questions

How old do I have to be to donate?
Volunteer blood donors must be 16 or older. Sixteen-year-olds are required to have a signed permission form. Permission slips are being sent home with all students, and no student will be allowed to donate without a parent or guardian’s knowledge.

Is it safe to give blood, and does it hurt?
Yes, donating blood is safe. All materials are used once and then discarded. You cannot contract an infectious disease by donating. As for discomfort, the needle stick typically feels like a quick pinch, and most donors feel fine afterward. Some may experience mild symptoms such as lightheadedness or a headache. LifeShare technicians are trained to recognize and respond to any unusual reactions.

How should I prepare for the blood drive?
Donors should eat a well-balanced meal, preferably one including protein, before donating. Students should also drink plenty of fluids—especially water—prior to their donation. Some students may be deferred due to iron deficiency or weight requirements. Don’t forget to bring a photo ID on the day of the drive.
