The last day of school at West Side Christian School is always a special occasion. It is a time to celebrate student achievement, honor the Teacher of the Year, and reflect on all that God has done throughout the school year. This year was no exception. However, the format of the ceremony was adjusted to give elementary parents an even greater opportunity to celebrate their children’s accomplishments.
In past years, elementary classroom awards were typically presented during class time. This year, each elementary student was recognized during the ceremony with a heartfelt award highlighting the unique qualities and character traits their teacher observed throughout the year. Students who earned the distinction of Honor Roll or Principal’s List were also recognized and presented with certificates for their academic achievement.
Another exciting addition to this year’s ceremony was the introduction of a new award. While West Side has traditionally recognized a Teacher of the Year, a second honor — Staff Member of the Year — was added this year. With so many staff members faithfully serving behind the scenes and going above and beyond each day, the administration and office staff felt it was important to recognize their contributions as well.
This year’s Staff Member of the Year award was presented to Mrs. Wendy Alday, who has served as an instructional aide in the Outback. The Teacher of the Year award was presented to Mrs. Angie Taylor. Mrs. Taylor teaches art at all grade levels, leads the yearbook class, and generously volunteers her time to assist the Outback teachers whenever needed. Both ladies are truly deserving of these honors, and West Side Christian School is grateful for the dedication and care they show to students each day.
